Facebook Fans: how to engage and increase likes for healthcare pages

Facebook for healthcare can be easy or hard depending on the type of department you work in.  But no matter what type of department, practice, or program your fan page is for, you have to have the fans in order to engage them.  The question is how do you get fans to your Facebook so you can engage them.  In this post I will start you off with two easy and simple things.

1. Have a photo contest.  Let the theme be about "your hero" or "cutest kid" contest.  Use Facebook advertising and target your zip code and surrounding area.  Make the add very simple.  Just put "Photo Contest!"  Believe me it works!  People love to share photos of their kids or stories.  Share it with your patients by posting a flyer in patient areas.  The flyer should have your Facebook Fan page name/link and a QR code.  If you want a flyer to use for a template, find me on Twitter and ask me for one and I can email it to you.  For your Hero contest you could say:

Who is your Hero—Photo Contest:
Everyday people make a difference and are helping to change the world.  This month, our centers are having a photo contest so you can share with the world, who your hero is in your life.
Who is your hero?   Submit your photo of your hero (this can be anyone or anything!) on our Facebook wall along with a few sentences on why they are your hero! The best photos and captions will be voted on and will be announced via Facebook at the end of the month.  The winners will receive a gift card to ?

2. Play a guessing game.  This one is easy.  Get a jar.  Put something in it like candy.  Put up a flyer with a instructions that say something like:

Like us on Facebook then guess how many pieces of candy we have in the jar.  Closest guess wins (what ever you decide).

Or something to that effect.  One of the surgery centers I do the marketing for started this two days ago and already has +25 likes on their fan page (see photo  for what  theirs looks like).   Before you start, try to get a couple of departments/practices/programs to compete to see who can get the most likes in a month.

Want more tips?  I have some more, but will put them in my next blog.  Until then, have fun with your games!

  1. What you're saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I'm sure you'll reach so many people with what you've got to say.
